Program Needs

The content of programming provided to Law.com CLE Center needs to meet typical state bar association standards. These standards include:

1. The course needs to be a minimum of 60 minutes in length.
2. The course shall be of intellectual or practical content.
3. The course shall contribute directly to lawyers' professional competence or skills, or to their education with respect to their professional or ethical obligations.
4. Each faculty member must possess the necessary practical or academic skills to conduct the course effectively. Subjects should normally be taught by lawyers or judges.
5. Thorough, high quality, readable, carefully prepared written materials should be made available for distribution to all program participants.

Documentation

In order for CLE Center to apply for program approval with state bar associations, we need the following documentation related to the substance and content of the program. Without this information, applications cannot be submitted and the program will not be uploaded to our Web site and activated for purchase.

  • Program description. 2-3 paragraphs describing the subject to be covered.
  • Program agenda. A list of short bullet points outlining the primary topics discussed.
  • Here is a link to a good example of a typical program description and agenda: http://clecenter.com/programs/description.aspx?id=1018
  • Panelist biographies.
  • Library materials. As noted above, supplemental material related to the course content, ideally hard and soft copies need to be provided with the program media. Library material examples include:
    • Speaker presentation (typically, a Power Point document or PDF). If the speaker is reading from or referencing a book, we'll need a copy of the chapter(s) cited (Word document or PDF is fine).
    • Any materials distributed to in-person attendees (Word document or PDF is fine).
    • Relevant articles in law journals.
    • URL links to verdicts cited.

State Bar Accreditation

Law.com CLE Center is an approved provider of CLE in the state of California. Several state bar associations have reciprocity with California allowing us to accredit programs in their states at the same time as we approve them for California. These states are AK, AZ, CA, ME, MO, ND, NY, TX. A second set of states that we typically apply for credit in includes CO, FL, GA, NV, OK, OR, VA. Some of these states have more rigorous approval processes and CLE Center cannot guarantee that all of them will approve all programs that we receive. Chief reasons for programs being declined approval are insufficient library materials and program agenda not matching program content.

Media

If your are going to provide CLE Center with the media for your own recorded program, these are the guidelines to follow:

  • Files need to be digital.
  • Audio programs can be either on CD or in MP3 format.
  • Video programs can be in .flv, .avi, wmv, or mini dv formats.
