How do I view course material? Do all programs have slides or library documents?

Course material comes in many different formats, but typical library items are links to articles within the Law.com network or other sources. Other library materials include PDF documents (requires Adobe Reader plug-in) and Microsoft PowerPoint presentations.

Not all programs at Law.com CLE Center incorporate the slide synchronization technology. Library documents are supplementary materials frequently provided to Law.com CLE Center by the panelists in the program or the content provider. In some instances, we have not received additional materials or permission to reproduce these documents.

Why can’t I fast forward during playback?

State Bar rules require that you watch the entire program and therefore to assure this we do not allow fast forwarding. You will not be able to fast-forward during the first viewing of the program. After the course is completed, it will be possible to rewind and fast-forward quickly and easily to any point in the course.

To rewind a program, either use the rewind icon, next to the pause button, or click and drag the slider (red arrow).

top

What is a verification code? Where do I find it?

Some state bar associations require online CLE providers to embed a verification code in every program. This insures them that you have watched or listened to the program for which you are claiming CLE credit. All programs at Law.com CLE Center for the specific states that have an attendance verification requirement have a code that will appear for a fixed duration of time during the course of the program. The verification code appears within the media player window. Write down this code and at the conclusion of the program you will be required to enter the code in order to be able to receive your CLE certificate.

I have all the required plug-ins but I am having trouble viewing the program in the classroom, what should I do?

First, go to http://clecenter.com/customerservice/connection_test.aspx - this will tell you if you can connect to our server. If the RTMPT connection is a success, you should have no problem viewing our streams. Some customers from larger organizations have expressed the inability to connect to our servers. We use standard HTTP tunneling over port 80 to stream multimedia.

Second, if you receive a success but still cannot stream our multimedia programs, go to: http://www.macromedia.com/support/flashcom/ts/documents/port_test.htm - this is Macromedia’s port connectivity test. This will tell us that you can in fact connect to a Flash Communications Server over the specified ports. This page has lots of helpful information regarding how we connect to a customer’s computer.

Lastly, if this all fails, have your system administrator add the URL for our streaming server to the firewall rule. Our streaming server is located at streams.clecenter.com. Ask them to make sure that standard HTTP tunneling is turned on and not proxied HTTP tunneling.

Please contact your system administrator should you require more help on this issue.

How do my CLE hours get reported to my state bar?

Procedures for reporting CLE attendance vary by state, and can usually be found on the Web site of individual state bar associations. Generally speaking, attorneys should expect to report their own hours, unless specifically informed otherwise.

To print your certificate, select the Print icon in the upper right hand corner of your certificate.

Credit Information

What is the difference between participatory and self-study credit?

In general, participatory credit may be earned through a program that logs user attendance. A program that is unable to verify user attendance may only offer self-study credit.

Attorneys are only allowed to take a certain amount of self-study credits to meet their MCLE compliance. For your convenience, Law.com CLE Center programs that offer only self-study credit will be labeled as self-study.

Participatory and self-study credit rules vary among states so please check with your state bar for more details.

top

How do I find the MCLE requirements for my state?

Requirements and their reporting periods vary by state and can change regularly. Your state board is the official keeper of this information. CLE Center does provide state-by-state information which you can access by selecting the CLE State Requirements link in the horizontal navigation located on every page.
