Irene Liu

Irene Liu is the SVP & General Counsel of Checkr, a provider of modern and compliant background checks for global enterprises and on-demand startups. At Checkr, she oversees legal, compliance, policy, and customer education teams. She is also a regular speaker on topics ranging from government engagement strategies and risk management to AI, data privacy and security. She is a frequent writer and contributor to the Thomson Reuters Legal Executive Institute and writes a blog series on “Using Your Platform for Good.”

Prior to going in-house, Irene worked at the U.S. Department of Justice, Antitrust Division and the FTC in the Bureau of Consumer Protection. She gained extensive international policy and compliance experience while overseeing BlackBerry’s global law enforcement compliance team. Irene received her J.D. from UC Berkeley School of Law and her B.A. from Mount Holyoke College.

Katrina Lindsey

Katrina S. Lindsey is the Senior Vice President, Deputy General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer for The ODP Corporation (“ODP”). In her role, Katrina assists with the daily management of the Global Legal Department, leads the Company’s litigation team, serves as Assistant Secretary of ODP’s Board of Directors’ Audit Committee and is responsible for ensuring that the appropriate standards and procedures are in place to maintain the Company’s Ethics and Compliance program.

Prior to joining ODP, she served as Senior Vice President, Division General Counsel – Employment Law and Dispute/Litigation Management for Darden Restaurants, Inc. in Orlando, Florida, where she was responsible for all of Darden’s litigation portfolio and provided supervisory leadership and direction to an in-house team of attorneys, paralegals and other legal associates.

Prior to joining Darden, Katrina was in-house counsel at Walt Disney Parks and Resorts U.S., Inc., where her work also focused on litigation and employment law. Katrina was recognized on the Lawyers of Color 2014 Hot List - Southeastern Region and 2019 Nation’s Best List – Southern Region.

She was also named one of the most powerful and influential women by the Florida Diversity Council in 2012 and earned a 2016 First Chair Award for Top Employment Counsel. Katrina holds a Juris Doctor from Stetson University, College of Law and a Bachelor of Science in Communication from Florida State University. Katrina is a member of the Florida Bar Association, Association of Corporate Counsel, and Corporate Counsel Women of Color.

In my almost 15 years of experience, I have learned “demonstrate value” these days means to have actual data metrics as evidence for the intangible benefit you know you provide. Those metrics can be used to show the value you add, whether it is how quickly the average deal negotiation took, to the provisions in your templates that you get the most pushback on and updating it to the fallback position.

I have only ever been in house, so I learned quickly that I had to prove I was a deal facilitator versus a deal roadblock. As I have grown in my career, I can see how data and business intelligence into the legal functions is revolutionary in proving value.

Charlene Foss has worked at LexisNexis, a prominent on-line information and legal software company, for 15 years.

Prior to joining LexisNexis, Char was in private practice at Lord, Bissell & Brook in Chicago; her practice focused primarily upon international coverage litigation.

During her career at LexisNexis, Char has won multiple awards in consulting. She served as a Corporate Legal Region Council Member from 2011 to 2013, and was a LexisNexis Circle of Excellence winner in 2014, 2015 and 2016. She has served as Chicago’s LexisNexis Cares Champion since 2010, and was selected by Reed Elsevier leadership in 2013 for the Recognizing Those Who Care award based on her philanthropic work in Chicagoland.

Char has a long record of volunteerism with the groups such as PILI, Pro Bono Advocates and the Veterans Legal Support Center at the John Marshall Law School. She also has served on the Illinois Supreme Court Commission on Professionalism’s CLE working group, and had the privilege of serving as an Illinois Human Rights Commissioner from 2017-2018. Char currently serves as a Park Ridge Public Library Trustee and as a Commissioner on the Illinois Volunteerism and Community Service Board.

Char graduated from Indiana University School of Law – Bloomington in 1997 with honors, where she was a member of the Indiana Law Journal editorial staff.
