Estate planning attorneys are not the only practitioners who need to understand trusts & estates issues. Such issues arise in virtually every matter from corporate to real estate to matrimonial cases. This program will provide non-estate planning attorneys with a basic understanding of estate planning and insurance issues in order for you to better serve your clients' needs.

    Panelist Biographies

    David J.McCabe

    Senior Partner
    Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP

    David J. McCabe is the senior partner and Chair of the Private Clients Group of Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP in New York. Mr. McCabe specializes in all aspects of estate planning and administration, with emphasis on the development of sophisticated plans for high-net-worth individuals and their families. Mr. McCabe's practice includes the preparation of complex wills, trust agreements and related instruments, the representation of clients in estate tax and gift tax audits, general counseling of clients in all phases of the administration of decedents' estates, and the advising of fiduciaries and beneficiaries in estate and trust litigation matters in Surrogate's Courts and the Supreme Court of the State of New York. He represents non-resident aliens regarding U.S. tax aspects of their plans as well as U.S. persons establishing trusts offshore. He also represents banks and trust companies and has counseled bank trust departments on trusts and estates matters. Finally, Mr. McCabe's practice includes the representation of national public charities, private foundations and charitable trusts. He has advised directors and trustees of eleemosynary organizations on a variety of corporate and tax issues and has formed numerous private foundations and public charitable entities.

    Mr. McCabe is recognized in Who's Who in America (2006), (2007), (2008), (2009), Who's Who in the World (2007), (2008), (2009) and is ranked among the nation's leading individuals practicing in the area of wealth management in Chambers USA (2006).

    Mr. McCabe was formerly Chair of the Committee on Trusts, Estates and Surrogate's Courts of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York and is a Fellow of the American College of Trusts and Estates Counsel. He is also a member of Trusts & Estates magazine's Estate Planning and Taxation Committee and has authored articles for the magazine. Mr. McCabe has written and lectured on estate tax planning for high-net-worth individuals and small business owners, and has co-authored Is Estate Planning Expensive?, Trusts & Estates Magazine (2004), There But for the Grace..., Trusts & Estates Magazine (2002), Transfer of Wealth, New York State Bar Association (1993) and New York Limited Liability Companies: A Guide to Law and Practice, West Publishing Company (1995). He has also appeared on CNN's Your Money and MSNBC's Abrams Report as an expert commentator on various estate planning issues.
